Naoshima will Give you the Best Experience in Places to Visit in Japan

Officially part of Kagawa Prefecture, Naoshima is a small island in the Seto Inland Sea. Although a good rural getaway from Tokyo, the island is best known for its many museums of modern art, architecture, and sculpture. Many of them are designed by the famous architect Ando Tadao. Some places to visit are the Chichu Art Museum, the Lee Ufan Museum, and Casa Benesse.

As you can imagine, getting to Naoshima is a real headache. You will first need to get to Uno Port in Okayama Prefecture or Takamatsu Port in Kagawa Prefecture before you can catch a ferry to the island. The ports themselves are quite difficult to find, let alone the island, so plan a long trip and expect to spend the night in the area.

The coastal city of Kamakura was once the military capital of Japan. The region is largely responsible for the rise of samurai culture as it is known today. Moreover, Kamakura is also one of the main cradles of Japanese Zen Buddhism. Many temples that have encouraged such spiritual principles still practice the essence of the Buddha’s teachings today.

Kamakura is generally considered a day trip, but the area is full of activities to delight one for several days. With its bamboo forests and ancient temples, Kamakura is able to satisfy any reason travelers come to Kyoto. Considering Kamakura’s bustling beaches, shopping aisles, and great local cuisine, this place is sure to captivate and amuse everyone.

However, whatever you do, make sure you don’t miss nearby Enoshima! It is an exceptional and impressive gift.
